the girl

And I'd give up forever to touch you
Cause I know that you feel me somehow

You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be

And I don't want to go home right now

The door opens with tinkle, letting in the sound of footsteps and the roar of a taxi as it rushes by. You turn as a black haired teenage girl hurries in, her backpack hanging from one shoulder as she walks briskly to a table.

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life

Cause sooner or later it's over

I just don't want to miss you tonight

Her pace slows as she nears a seat, one from the small tables near the window. She glances around as she sits down, a small smile on her face, and starts humming along to the song being played. She knows it by heart.

And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

She brushes a stray strand of hair away from her face as she looks through the menu. You watch her order a coffee and a slice of toast.

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything seems like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know your alive

It's a pleasant afternoon, the sun shines in and illuminates her face. You wonder what she's here for.

And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

Sometimes people go to cafes for a coffee or a snack, sometimes they go there to meet a friend and chat, sometimes they go there for the atmosphere, a place to rest or talk or think...

I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am...

You suppose you're here for a bit of everything.
A bit of anything.

[Song: Iris by Goo Goo Dolls]
